Pulmonary Fibrosis

Scarring of the lungs that stiffens them over time — slowed with modern antifibrotic therapy.

Overview

Pulmonary fibrosis is scarring of the lung tissue that makes the lungs stiff and reduces oxygen transfer. It causes progressive breathlessness and a persistent dry cough.

While scarring cannot be undone, modern antifibrotic medicines can slow progression, and supportive care meaningfully improves comfort and function.

Common symptoms

  • Progressive breathlessness, especially with activity
  • Persistent dry cough
  • Tiredness and unintended weight loss
  • Clubbing (rounding) of the fingertips in some cases

How I can help

Confirming the diagnosis and assessing severity
Antifibrotic therapy where indicated
Oxygen and pulmonary rehabilitation
Monitoring progression and managing flare-ups

Frequently asked questions

Can pulmonary fibrosis be slowed down?

Yes. Antifibrotic medications can slow the rate of lung function decline in many patients, and oxygen plus rehabilitation improve quality of life. Early diagnosis gives the best opportunity to act.
